A work by Kiyomizu Uichi, a world-renowned ceramic artist who studied Chinese ceramics under Ishiguro Munemaro, a Living National Treasure for "Iron Glaze Ceramics." After becoming an apprentice at the National Kyoto Ceramic Research Institute, he served as an assistant in the Ceramics Department of the Kyoto Municipal Industrial Research Institute. Thereafter, he devoted himself to ceramic art, primarily in his home studio, and at the age of 59, became the youngest person at the time to be designated a Living National Treasure for "Iron Glaze Ceramics." In his later years, he moved his studio to the foothills of Mt. Horai on the west side of Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture, where he continued his active career.
