This work is by the great dyeing artist Keisuke Serizawa (1895-1984), designated a Living National Treasure. Captivated by his encounter with Sōetsu Yanagi and the decorative techniques of Okinawan bingata, Serizawa embarked on a path of dyeing, primarily using katazome (stencil dyeing). Through his innate talent for color and pattern, he created a succession of fresh, imaginative works that transcended traditional dyeing frameworks. Serizawa excelled at "moji-e" (character pictures), treating characters themselves as patterns, and produced numerous works based on the "iroha" poem.
