At a young age, he studied under the Nitten leading figure Kusube Yaichi, and with his rare sense of pottery and inquisitiveness, he produced a series of particularly outstanding Bizen works. After receiving many glorious honors, including "certification as a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Okayama Prefecture," "winning the Grand Prix Gold Award at the Brussels World Exposition," "recipient of the Medal with Purple Ribbon," and "recipient of the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Fourth Class," Yamamoto Toshu was recognized as a "holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property" of Bizen ware in his later years at the age of 80, and is still highly regarded to this day. This is one of Yamamoto Toshu's finest works. The powerful wheel-throwing and dynamic scenery make this a truly magnificent masterpiece.
