The Kato Keizan family has been a lineage of potters. The first generation (Meiji 18, 1885–Showa 38, 1963) established his kiln in Gojozaka, Kyoto. He devoted himself to reproducing Chinese celadon and creating works in the Goryeo style. The second generation (Taisho 2, 1914–Heisei 7, 1995) received instruction in celadon from his father, the first generation, and succeeded him in Showa 38. He was active in the Teiten Exhibition and other exhibitions. He was designated a Preserver of Traditional Craft Techniques by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Ceramics) and received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Blue Ribbon. The third generation (Showa 20, 1945–) was born in Kyoto and graduated from the Kyoto College of Art and Design. He succeeded his father as the third generation in Heisei 8. He has held solo exhibitions at Takashimaya and other venues.
