In 1924 (Taisho 13), he was impressed by a lecture given by Kawai Kanjiro at the Osaka Art Club, which led to a friendship between the two. He also got to know Yanagi Muneyoshi, and in 1927, the Kamigamo Mingei Kyodan was formed, centering around Yanagi Muneyoshi, and promoted the folk art movement.
