Born in Kanazawa in 1935 as the third generation potter of the Baizan family. In 1955, he dropped out of Kanazawa College of Art and studied cooking and Rosanjin pottery at Nakajima in Ginza. In 1969, he was a fellow at the Rockefeller Foundation and conducted comparative research on Japanese and American ceramics. In 1982, he participated in the exhibition "ART and/or CRAFT - Decoration Today - USA, JAPAN". In 1993, he received the Minister of Education's Art Encouragement Prize for the exhibition "Exploring the Present with Tokyo Ware and Metaceramics". He was a professor in the Department of Crafts at Tama Art University until March 2006.
