Enamored by the works of the late Edo period lacquer carver Tamakazo Zokoku, who is considered the father of modern lacquer art, he learned lacquer art techniques on his own and was recognized as a Living National Treasure for revolutionizing lacquer art in Japan. Otomaru Kodo is a great Living National Treasure lacquer artist who is a member of the Japan Crafts Council and has been active in Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibitions and other events, and has served as a permanent director and advisor to the association. This is a masterpiece that boasts an overwhelming performance.

Choshitsu is a technique in which a pattern is carved into the layers of lacquer applied to the surface of a base material with a knife. Otomaru Kodo has pioneered new horizons in choshitsu with his bold surface compositions.
