The Miwa family has established a top position in the world of Hagi ware and continues to enjoy great acclaim and popularity. This is an outstanding work by the 11th generation Miwa Kyusetsu (Jusetsu), who was the younger brother of the 10th generation Miwa Kyusetsu (Kyuwa), who was recognized as an intangible cultural asset of Hagi ware, and inherited the Miwa family after his brother retired, and was recognized as a Living National Treasure of Hagi ware. He trained in traditional techniques under his brother Kyusetsu, and later studied tea pottery under Kawakita Handeishi, and is said to have trained tirelessly for 30 years until he became independent, leaving behind a number of wonderful works that will be passed down to future generations. This work is a beautiful white Hagi ware cup with a mellow white glaze, which can be said to be the predecessor of Oni Hagi, which he favored to make in his later years. The pure white straw ash glaze that the 11th Kyusetsu established is a representative example of Kyusetsu white, and the large and powerful finish is attractive, and the more you use it, the more you will appreciate it. It feels very good in the hand, and it is no exaggeration to say that it is the highest-ranking work of the 11th Kyusetsu. There is an inscription of "Kyusetsu" on the bottom.
