Height 26.8cm Diameter 18.6cm

He graduated from the sculpture department of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and won numerous awards, including third place for his "Porcelain Gold and Purple Crystal Glazed Vase" at the Tokyo Industrial Exposition in 1907, after which he was appointed an Imperial Household Artist.

He was the first potter to receive the Order of Culture, and in 1955 he declined an offer to be designated a Living National Treasure, because he regarded pottery as an art.

This work was created by Japan's greatest ceramist, Itaya Hazan (1872-1963), who was a pioneer in establishing modern art ceramics as opposed to traditional pottery, as well as a master of the fundamentals of art. He is regarded as one of the greatest ceramists in modern times and is unparalleled.

His representative works include the "Bao Guang Colored Porcelain Vase with Rare Fruit Design" (Important Cultural Property, in the collection of the Izumiya Hakukokan Museum), the "Colored Porcelain Vase with Enju Design" (in the collection of Idemitsu Museum of Arts), and the "Colored Porcelain Vase with Bird and Fruit Design" (Tsurui Museum of Art), and he had an immeasurable impact on the history of modern pottery.

This is a special piece that stands out for its thin carvings, which are the result of the intricate carving techniques honed by the sculptor and Imperial Household Artist Takamura Kokun at the Sculpture Department of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts.

On the inside of the lid, it is written "Taisho 5 (1916) Mid-Haruyoshitatsu," and it was created when Hazan was 44 years old. It is clear that this was a work that Hazan himself felt very attached to.

This work is extremely valuable not only as a work of art, but also from an academic standpoint.
