23699 Living National Treasure FUJIMOTO Yoshimichi (colored bamboo and sparrow design sake cup)

After graduating from the Department of Design, Crafts, Tokyo School of Fine Arts, he studied under Kato Hachimoe. Later, while working as an assistant to Tomimoto Kenkichi, he mastered the techniques of overglaze porcelain. He established a unique coloring technique called "Yu-i-ka-sai" and his skills were so highly praised that he was recognized as a Living National Treasure for his overglaze porcelain in 1986. Fujimoto Yoshimichi is one of Japan's leading overglaze porcelain artists, and has also worked hard to train the next generation, including as professor and president of Tokyo University of the Arts. This piece features elegant paintings of beautifully drawn bamboo and sparrows.
