Kawai Kanjiro is a master of Japanese folk art, highly regarded worldwide, who has pioneered new frontiers in modern ceramics with his profound yet simple style that pursues "beauty of utility," winning the Grand Prize at the Milan International Exhibition. This piece features a well-balanced form and outstanding coloring in three colors: red, black, and green.

Kanjiro Kawai's daiyaku has a unique momentum and strength not found in his predecessors. He even wrote in his diary that he was "exhausted" on the day of the daiyaku. Why not experience the overwhelming worldview of Kanjiro Kawai, who pursued "beauty of utility" and elevated Japanese folk craft pottery to the status of global art?

This work was given to us by a collector in Yasugi, Kanjiro's hometown. The owner had acted as a matchmaker for Kanjiro. They remained in contact until his later years, and the photograph was carefully preserved by pasting it in paper covering it. It was also exhibited at the "Muneyoshi Yanagi Folk Crafts and Masters Exhibition" to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the founding of the Fukushima Minpo Newspaper, and is a masterpiece that was also featured on the poster. A piece of washi paper with the exhibition number written on it is attached to the piece.

This is a masterpiece by Kanjiro that is a size larger than usual. Please enjoy the stately style of this piece.
