Height 29.8cm

Diameter 22.6cm

The height is about 20 to 35 cm, and the shape can be round, round and long, waisted, square, or shoulder-shaped. The glaze is gray, and the clay and finish are the highest quality of the potters of Tamba. The production period is limited to a 50-year period from the end of the Keicho era to around the end of the Kanei era (between 1610 and 1672), but it is still unclear why they were only made in a short period of time. The clay, glaze, and technique are undoubtedly from the Kamaya period of Tamba. There is a record that Asakura Sansho was produced in a place called Asakura in what is now Tajima, Tamba, where high-quality Sansho was produced. It has been determined that this is a container for this Sansho. In the Wadadera documents, there is a letter of thanks for Sansho presented to the magistrate for tea leaves, and the Asakurayama Masu Jar, which was used, appears many times in tea ceremony records such as "Tsuda Soeki Chayu Nikki" and "Goyudono no Ue no Nikki." The Asakurayama Masu Jar, which disappeared suddenly within a few decades, is a "phantom jar" of old Tamba ware.
