Born into a wealthy merchant family in Tsu, Ise Province, Kawakita Handeishi was a businessman who held important corporate positions, including president of the Hyakugo Bank. However, he also demonstrated a wide range of artistic talents, including painting, calligraphy, the tea ceremony, haiku, and photography, and was praised as "Rosanjin of the East and Handeishi of the West." This is a masterpiece by Handeishi Kawakita. The piece is severely distorted overall, and the rim is also warped. The deformation and distortion of the shape of the vessel, the stone cracks, the peeling glaze, and even the kiln changes all play a major role in creating its beauty.

"Shinonome" refers to the sky turning crimson red just before dawn as darkness transitions to light.

This is a masterpiece that is full of Handeishi's unique style.
