The eldest son of Tokuro Kato, he started his career as a potter from an early age, and after the "Eijin Pot Incident" he left many pottery groups. His masterpieces, which he produced through his own training and study, are now housed in major art museums around the country.

Outstanding works by Okabe Mineo, the solitary genius ceramic artist who made a huge contribution to the history of modern Japanese art. Although Okabe Mineo is often associated with the celadon porcelain he produced in his later years, he continued to produce many masterpieces of Momoyama pottery, even after he took over from Kato Tokuro and parted ways with him, using his original ideas and soulful ceramic techniques.

This piece is from the "Kato Mineo" period, but is extremely rare and a masterpiece that can be said to be the result of Okabe Mineo's spirit of pottery making. It is a masterpiece that shows his outstanding workmanship, which revived the aesthetic sense of good old Momoyama pottery in modern times while keeping the user's heart in mind.
