Taizo Kuroda (1946–2021) is known worldwide for his serene white porcelain sculptures. He moved to Paris at the age of 20 and encountered ceramics in Canada in 1967. After returning to Japan, he held his first solo exhibition in 1982. Since 1992, when hefirst exhibited white porcelain works, this has become the focus of his creative work.
Kuroda Taizo's white porcelain works have thin, taut contours, while the surfaces feature soft, beautifully arched wheel marks, impressing on the viewer the definite presence of each piece.
The artist likens the creation of white porcelain vessels to expressing "words between yes and no." In other words, he sees it as a way to give form to and share things that cannot be put into words.
