This work was created by the great ceramic artist Ishiguro Munemaro (1893-1968), who was Japan's first designated Important Intangible Cultural Property Holder (Living National Treasure) along with Tomimoto Kenkichi, Hamada Shoji, and Arakawa Toyozo when the system of Important Intangible Cultural Property Holders was launched in 1955. When one looks at this work while also taking into account that it was created by a self-taught artist, one is impressed by the richness of his talent.
