Born in Tateyama-cho in 1954. His grandfather, Shakunaga Shojiro, worked hard to revive Etchu Seto ware. In 1975, he inherited the Shoraku kiln. He was mentored by Professor Hayashiya Seizo and studied Bizen under Professor Kaneshige Sozan. He experienced pottery making at the Icheon kiln, Mungyeong kiln, and Cheongju kiln in Korea. When he held a solo exhibition in Kyoto, the late Steve Jobs visited, and he continued to receive requests for production. He has exhibited his works in New York, Milan, Taipei, and Hungary.
