Born in 1902. Died in 1985. Originally from Kyoto. In 1914, he entered the training school attached to the Kyoto Municipal Ceramics Testing Laboratory. After graduating, he became an assistant to Tomimoto Kenkichi and received his training. Before the war, he exhibited a wide variety of works at the Teiten and Bunten exhibitions. In 1955, he joined the Japan Crafts Association and devoted himself to creating blue and white porcelain. He served as a permanent director of the Japan Crafts Association and chairman of the Ceramics Department. In 1956, he became a professor at Kyoto City University of Arts. In 1965, he became president. In 1977, he was recognized as a holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) for blue and white porcelain. This is an outstanding piece in which the blue and white porcelain stands out against the vibrant gold coloring.
