1901-1980 Ceramic artist of the Showa period. Born September 13, 1901. Eldest son of the 5th generation Kiyomizu Rokubei. In 1945, he took over the family business of Kyoto Kiyomizu ware. He added new techniques of glazing and firing to traditional Kyoto ware techniques. In 1956, he received the Art Academy Prize for his "Gengama Sou Vase." In 1976, he was named a Person of Cultural Merit and a member of the Art Academy. He passed away on April 17, 1980, at the age of 78. He graduated from Kyoto Municipal Painting College (now Kyoto Municipal University of Arts). His childhood name was Shotaro and his pen name was Rokusei.
